Extended Purpose, 4: See Beyond "You"

“By faith…” Hebrews 11:1 gives the definition that faith is “being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Rahab, up to that point, had kept herself in the crosshairs of her own focus. She did what she wanted to do, had to do, and chose to do. She sold her “soul” as a means to survive, only to find out that she was on a fast-track down. In that moment she stopped seeing herself, and saw much more beyond herself. She became enlightened to an extended purpose. She had allowed herself to take a risk and embrace the idea of faith. She would do as the spies had instructed. She believed that she would not die in the attack that would destroy her city and all the people in it, except for her and her family. She would no longer let herself and her situation to be bigger than the purpose that stood before her.

We can never be so center of our own universe. When we are the creators and masters of own purpose, we have chosen to live for something much smaller than God had ever intended. Let faith have a fighting chance in your life. Choose to take your eyes off of what you can feel and change, and allow God to work in you in spite of your limited understanding. There is a purpose that is greater than your present situation, but you will need faith in order to keep stepping out and towards that great purpose.
