Extended Faith, 1: Abraham's Story

“The LORD said to Abram, “Leave your land, your relatives, and your father's home. Go to the land that I will show you” (Genesis 12:1, GW).

The Bible reminds us that without faith, it is impossible to please God. Faith takes us to unimaginable places beyond reason and imagination. Abraham’s story is a real-life account of one man whose faith was challenged past the limits of his plans, his thoughts, and his understanding. Most of us prefer an itinerary or schedule that marks out for us where we are, where we’re going, what obstacles we might face on the way, and the exit ramps in case we want to get off and avoid the traffic. But God challenges our faith by allowing us to face uncertainty and the unknown. When faith is extended, it is fully examined, and that’s where the evidence of its authenticity lies.
