Extended Courage, 1: Gideon's Story

“The angel of GOD appeared to him and said, "GOD is with you, O mighty warrior!"   …But GOD faced him directly: "Go in this strength that is yours. Save Israel from Midian. Haven't I just sent you?" 15 Gideon said to him, "Me, my master? How and with what could I ever save Israel? Look at me. My clan's the weakest in Manasseh and I'm the runt of the litter”” (Judges 6:12, 14-15, MSG).

Have you ever had something in front of you that you know you needed to do? Deep inside you actually wanted to do it, but maybe it felt that something had you fully surrounded that intimidated you from following through. Gideon’s story is of a man who was saturated in potential and destiny, but couldn’t see it for the fear and insecurity that overshadowed him. He would soon find that God can use the least of the least to conquer the best of the best. To arrive at the destiny God had for Gideon, he would have to dig deep and grab hold of confidence in God and courage for his calling. His extended courage would take him past his fear and into the realm of the impossible.
