David's life to this point was testimonial evidence to God's sovereignty. David was anointed to be king. Nothing and nobody would be able to stand in the way. Not a bear or a lion, not an overgrown bully, and not a jealous, bitter stricken king. Though David was chased down, there is something that he hadn't forgotten. God was on his side. God had made a promise. There is a security in that promise, because David had seen time and time again how God had kept His promises. As long as David was walking in obedience, it didn't matter who did what, said what, or thought what. David, though chased, could live secure.
Not too long ago, there was someone who began to tell me about what they thought someone else had said about me. They told me in a way that was semi-secretive, assuming there was full truth, and that there was a power that that assumed truth had over me. Eventually I figured out what was being alluded to. My response was simple. God has shown me, in my life, that I don't have to defend myself to everyone or anyone when something about me past, present, or future is said. If you know the truth, and you know that God knows the truth, then you can live secure in that truth. Life will never hold a shortage of people who will say something about us that is negative, deceitful, condescending, slanderous, or the like. It's a not a matter what people call you, it's what you answer to that begins to define you.
David was secure, because he knew who he was, who called him, and that the One who called him was faithful to stand by Him. He was chased, but he was chosen. He was secure.
Do you ever find yourself trying to defend yourself to some of the same people over and over? Don't give someone else the power of control over your life. Know the truth and the truth will set you free! It will set you free from living in the bondage of everyone else's opinions. Know the truth, walk in the truth, and in that truth...you will live secure!
