"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6).
As a parent, my greatest prayer is that my children will grow up to know the amazing love of Jesus Christ, and that they will live their lives in a worshipful response of that love. I pray for my children daily. From before they were even born, my wife and I would lay hands on her stomach and pray. We'd pray for them by name as soon as discovered their gender.
As they are growing at a pace that I can get extremely uncomfortable with at times, my prayers for them stay focused and strong. Recently at a Bible study, there were some men that were talking about HOW they pray for their children. And as they spoke, the Holy Spirit led me to the following points of emphasis that really capture the spirit of the prayer that I pray for my own children.
I pray that my children will...
...always depend on Him.
...determine to obey Him.
...never depart from Him.
...live to discern His will.May we always pray over our children, continuing to release them to the Lord, while also asking for wisdom from God as we seek to raise them, disciple them, love them, and speak into their lives in a way that honors God and sets the example for them to do the same.
