"So, since there was no other food available, the priest gave him the holy bread - the Bread of the Presence that was placed before the LORD in the Tabernacle. It had just been replaced that day with fresh bread" (1 Samuel 21:6).
David was hungry, weak, and tired. What he was looking for was sustenance. What he found that day was something of great significance. Not only was it bread, but it was a bread that symbolized and signified the presence of a holy God. Not only that, but it was FRESH BREAD. It wasn't day-old, left over, or partially eaten. This was the freshness of God's holy presence. And, it was given to David. He feasted on the fresh presence of God.
Has God done anything for you? Can you remember a time that God has come through for you? Blessed you? Provided for you? Encouraged you? Don't ever forget how the presence of God has impacted your life. But understand this: we cannot depend on what God has done in our lives to sustain us. Our past encounters with God have influenced our present, but are not enough to nourish us on the journey towards the future God has for us. We need fresh bread. We need to remember that Jesus is the Bread of Life. Don't be satisfied with the left-overs. Wait upon God today for fresh bread! His presence will more than sustain you. It will give you the strength you need not to just "get through" this life, but to be victorious in this life!
