"And they began to beg Jesus to depart from their region" (Mark 5:17).

Do the right thing and good things will always happen. Right? If only that were true. Sometimes doing the right things gets you exactly what you were hoping wouldn't least for now.

Jesus had just set a tormented man free. This man had been a danger to many others. He had been roaming free in the cemeteries, terrorizing any who were around. Many others had tried to subdue him, even with chains, but to now avail.

Jesus had brought to this community was was needed. It intimidated them. It overwhelmed them. They weren't ready to have that kind of powerful presence and authority in their midst. So, they asked Him to leave. He was rejected, and not welcome there.

Have you ever felt that way? I'm sure you have. You do what you know is right, maybe even what God has told you to do, or to say. But, those that hear it or see it, become overwhelmed , intimidated, and convicted by the presence of God, so they reject or distance themselves from you. Don't take it personally! Easier said than done. Instead, allow it to break your heart for those who don't realize what they're actually choosing. But, even still, choose to love. Jesus has never stopped loving you...or them.
"But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).
