"Where there is strife, there is pride, but wisdom is found in those who take advice" (Proverbs 13:10).
Have you ever found that you are right, even though you may be the only one that knows it? So, in order to be right, you have taken an oath to stand up for what is right no matter the costs! After all, it is your duty! Don't worry, you're not the only one that's ever fallen for that one!
Contention and strife have become so synonymous in many relationships and conversations. Everyone not only wants to be right, but to prove the other person wrong. THIS is pride. Argument for self-gain is pride. Having to be right is pride. Making sure that the other person knows that your right is pride. But, humility, without which there is no real wisdom, leads one to seek counsel and take advice, giving up the "right" to know it all.
We must come to the place where we confess with conviction that we don't know it all. Here are strengths that we have and wisdom that we've gained in the Lord through seasons He's brought us through. But, we still need to surround ourselves with others who've also gained wisdom, knowledge, and insights. It's OK for us NOT to know, if we will be open to listen, even to ideas that we might initially think otherwise.
Are you experiencing strife in a relationship...at work, home, church, with someone? If so, take a moment today and ask God to search you, and to allow you to check your heart. Has pride begun again to try to make a presence in your heart? Let the wisdom of God shine a light that dispels the darkness of that pride. Purpose to glorify God in every relationship, every conversation...even the ones where there is disagreement.
